Early Education
Windham Southeast Supervisory Union has been providing early education and early childhood special education services to young children and their families for more than thirty years. What began in 1987 with a small grant from the former Brattleboro Town School District to provide home visiting services for families with children from birth to age three has grown into a comprehensive early childhood system serving children and families throughout the district. Today, our early childhood services include:
-
Public prekindergarten classrooms located at Dummerston School, Guilford Central School, Oak Grove School, and Putney Central School
-
Prekindergarten partnerships with community-based early childhood programs
-
Early Childhood Special Education services for children ages 3 through kindergarten entry who have developmental delays or disabilities
-
Collaboration with Head Start, Early Head Start, and the Parent Child Center through Early Education Services
Together, these programs provide high-quality early learning opportunities and support for young children and their families across the Windham Southeast region.
Early Childhood Education in the WSESU: Our Credo
We believe that each and every young child has the potential to thrive at home, in school, and in community life. We know that all young children need nurturing relationships with adults and supportive environments at home and in early education settings to be successful learners and to sustain positive interactions with peers and adults. Some children will need more targeted learning opportunities or services to help them reach their full potential, and through specialized services, family engagement, and collaboration with community partners, WSESU is committed to providing early education and support so that all children have the best start possible in school and in life.
Early Head Start and Parent Child Center (PCC). Our services include: Head Start & Early Head Start classrooms, Early Head Start Home Visiting, the Welcome Baby Program, playgroups, the Dedicated Dads program, a monthly dental clinic for children 0–3, information and referral services to connect families with area resources, support groups, and parent education classes. We also partner with Vermont’s Economic Services to provide Reach-Up case management to young families.
